Being blissfully unaware of the problems that were happening outside of our door and not having to feel responsible for fixing them.

It depends on the situation. If the person in question did only a minor crime, then yes I believe they should be given a second chance.

But if what they did hurt several others and had grave  irreversible results then they don't deserve forgiveness whatsoever.
